The half-finished nursery, the chair you’ll rock your baby to sleep in every night, the soft hum of everyday life beginning to shift. Your newborn bubble is sacred and holds the earliest memories spent together as a family.
Intentionally Slowing Down
Nina and Patrick welcomed me into their home with a quiet warmth that immediately set the tone of this newborn session. Their space felt lived-in and loved, filled with soft light and thoughtful details that reflected this new chapter. We took our time, not rushing so things could unfold naturally. When I’m photographing a newborn session, I like to step back, guiding my families when needed, but giving space for moments to take shape on their own. I shot this newborn session on both film and digital, which also forced us to slow down and let moments organically happen as I loaded my next roll of film into my camera. Patrick and Nina are both artists, Patrick a musician and Nina a future designer, and their beautifully styled home made my job as a photographer equally easy and inspiring. The overcast light and the changing trees outside only added to the moodiness their design style already encompassed. But what made this newborn session so special wasn’t just the beauty of their home, but the feeling within it. That quiet, sacred in-between where everything is new, a little unknown, and deeply loved. It’s a season that passes quickly, but one that deserves to be remembered just as it was.
Rules for Your Newborn Session
The only rule I want to you to remember for your newborn session is to release any sort of expectations. Remember just how incredible you are for surviving this newborn phase. The last thing you should stress about is if there are dishes in the sink or if your bed is made. I’ll handle the artistic vision of your newborn photos, and if your baby isn’t in a smiley mood? That’s real life and more than okay. You can feed them, change them, rock them, and I’ll be a fly on the wall documenting what life truly looks like for you. In return, you’ll have photos that feel real and beautifully yours.
