Fall Maternity Session in Austin, Texas

Autumn Colors in the City

The air was crisp (for Texas…) and fall had finally begun to arrive in Austin on the evening of Allie and Connor’s maternity session. Fall in the south is my favorite time of year for maternity sessions. It’s beginning to cool off and the leaves are changing shades of amber and honey. I had brought Allie and Connor to one of my favorite spots on the outskirts of Austin; a spot along the most beautiful riverbank in the woods. I wanted their maternity photos to articulate who they are as a couple, and knew this peaceful part of the park would match their energy well. It was also a perfect location for their session because it’s private, allowing for a greater sense of ease and comfort for the two of them in front of the camera. 

Often couples will look at me for direction when it comes to posing and being in front of the camera, and I always will say I don’t want your our time together to feel like a photoshoot. I want it to feel like we’re just a couple of friends hanging out. I’ll guide you in a way thats authentic to the two of you. We’ll create real moments that will be preserved forever.

For this maternity session, I shot a couple rolls of 120mm film and adore how the tones of the photographs turned out. The photos feel like a watercolor painting to me. Film does such a good job of capturing the richness and vibrancy of our world’s colors, especially in nature. A couple of the shots where the sun is peeking through the clouds and creating this golden halo around Allie and Connor are my absolute favorite. How beautiful nature is. 

Celebrating Love & Life

It’s always so cool to feel like I get to sneak a peek into someone’s future. Whether it’s a baby, an engagement or a marriage, it’s such an honor to be trusted with these chapters of life. Allie and Connor shared all about their future baby plans and thoughts on being a new parent with me, and I felt that familiar sense of joy that comes after photographing a maternity session. I never tire of it. I get to experience love and joy through someone else’s eyes. The energy and affection shared between a couple in moments of celebration is so special to witness. I know they’ll look back on these photos and remember this time as the time before their hearts expanded in size; the time before they became parents.

I’m so excited for the maternity sessions I have in store for this coming fall, and feel so lucky to be a chapter of so many families’ stories. Cheers to all the chapters to come!
